As a food writer, you can probably imagine my TikTok For You page is filled with recipes, new food products, and reviews. Because I’m constantly scrolling through dozens—ok, let’s be honest, hundreds—of delicious food videos, I spend a lot of time trying new recipes and TikTok hacks—much to the pleasure of my friends, who are usually my taste-testing guinea pigs.
And, at a recent holiday party, I made a viral five-ingredient appetizer that might be the most well-received party food I’ve ever served. It was the first thing licked clean from the table—even before the Buffalo chicken dip and pizza.
So, if you’re ready to serve the hit of the party, you need to make this Crispy Baked Boursin from TikTok user Cheese Gal.
How To Make Crispy Baked Boursin
The username is definitely adding up as this appetizer screams cheese lover. It’s simply Boursin cheese rolled in Panko, baked, and topped with hot honey. To make it, you’ll need a wheel of Boursin, flour, one beaten egg, seasoned Panko breadcrumbs, and hot honey. The original TikTok user and I both used Boursin’s original Garlic & Fine Herbs flavor—but this would be especially good with its new Black Truffle & Sea Salt flavor or, really, any Boursin variety.
You’ll start by dredging the entire Boursin wheel in flour, then dipping it in the egg, and finally coating it with the Panko. From there, transfer it to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet (for easy cleanup) and bake in a 410-degree F oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Once it’s crispy and browned, you’ll plate it and top it with hot honey (if desired).
You can garnish it with fresh rosemary as the recipe creator does, but when I made it, I wasn’t going for presentation—which is a good thing because it was eaten in 10 minutes flat before anyone had time to really even look at it. So, I just topped it with hot honey and served it with crackers and pita chips.
As the TikTok creator said, this really was the “hit of the party.” If I’d had known that six people would eat the cheese wheel in mere minutes, I probably would have made two or three of these. And because it was so simple to make, I wouldn’t have even been upset about making more than one.
Boursin is such a versatile ingredient. Whether you’re adding it to mashed potatoes, pastas, or simply just eating it with crackers on its own, it’s always delicious. But I have to say, this crispy, breaded app might just be my new favorite way to eat the flavorful cheese.
As Cheese Gal says, this recipe is a great one to have in your back pocket this holiday season. Trust me, no matter how many times you make it, it'll be a success.
