Dubai SFs are set

It's Roger against Gasquet and Nole against Berdych

Fed is 7-1 against Richard, with his last encounter last year in Paris-Bercy, and winning 7 in a row

Novak is 5-1 against Thomas, with the serbian winning two times in the last 4 months

Rog should pass trough the frenchman with no problems, but the other match should be far more tight. My bet is with the Czech, since Nole has showing some problems this week, getting away from his Oz-level.

Dolgo beats Stan in straights
6-4 7-6
Alex was perhaps lucky to win the second set, Stan had a bunch of chances to take it.

He will play the winner of the next match, either Ferrer or Monaco.
If he wins the tournament Dolgo will be in the top 20 I think.

Djokovic beat Federer to win the ATP 500 of Dubai

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/9408376.stm

the "evil twin" of Roger showed up one more time... :(

it was... disapointing, to say the least: VERY BAD match for Roger. Way too many unforced errors (sound familiar?) and a bad attitude, almost like giving up (he lost the last 5 games of the match)

it was his 2nd final of the year (96th in his career), 6th in last 4 months.

but it wasn't all bad-Fed: Nole played awesome, just like he did in Oz. Like he said himself: "Tonight was one of the better matches I've played in a while"

for Nole, who won in straights (6-3, 6-3) it is his 2nd title of the year, 20th of his career, and 3rd in last 4 months, and his 3rd consecutive in Dubai

he's still unbeatable in 2011

now Nole is with great momentum for the Davis Cup next week, and Roger... well, he needs to regroup to make a good Indian Wells.

but he won't :horse:

he will lose today against Ferrer, IMO.

Or at most against Almagro, who is on fire in South America and is already waiting in the final

Yep, too streaky against Ferrer, I think David likes playing guys like that. 3-0 against Alex now.
He might be the one to stop Almagro's run too.
Dolgo still moving up though, 22 with a recent final and semi ain't bad.

I'm going to watch the delayed replay of the Dubai final on tv, too early live
I think there was some problem with Federer not playing enough 500 tournaments last year giving him a penalty.
Novak is less than 100 points behind him now.

Tipsarevic just made the Delray Beach final, and there are finally streams for that event.
Delpo/Fish coming up soon. It would be good to see Tipsy get his first title, but he has some tough potential opponents. It might be time for Delpo to finally win his first comeback title.

Ferrer won the ATP 500 of Acapulco

http://www.espn.co.uk/tennis/sport/story/76516.html

He defends his title of last year, beating Almagro in three sets.

It is his 11th career title, 2nd of the year, 3rd in the last 4 months.

He's now 2nd in the 2011 race

For Almagro, it was his 12th career final, 3rd of the year.

i hope he can beat tipsy today

HE'S BACK!!:
Delpo won the ATP 250 of Delray Beach
:nanner:

It's his 8th career title for the 22-years-old youngster.
It's his first title in 15 months (since almost all 2010 he was injured).

Ater a couple SFs this year, finally the comeback takes place, with his first victory since the US Open 2009 legendary match.

The rest of the tour must be worried: Juan Martín, a guy who has the game to beat EVERYONE (roger & rafa included) is looking good again.

the sleeping giant is awakening...

for Tipsy, it was his 3rd career final (no victories yet). To be honest, i don't think he has the game for being a top-20. Too streaky and mentally weak.

Roger – who it has to be said, played some pretty uninspired, error-strewn tennis out there this evening (yes, Nole applied the pressure, but Roger hitting an overhead into the bottom of the net is just. . . URGGGGGGH!) – is never one to admit (too much) defeat

(...)

I understand Roger’s semi-blase attitude, but part of me wonders if he’s letting this whatever attitude creep into his game a little too much, at least in Dubai. Yes, you have nothing to prove, Roger. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep provin’ it. There was something a little too casual in this loss for me, the diehard fan. The dumping of his serve right after breaking in the second set, the succession of forehand errors, the lack of urgency in his return of serve – it’s just not pleasant to watch. If the sight of Nole applauding his occasional winners couldn’t inspire the Prideful Roger to at least bag the second set, I have to wonder if the Man in Yellow has grown a little too mellow?

Couldn't have said it better myself...

Sampras beat Agassi 6-3 7-5 at an exo at Madison Square Garden today.
McEnroe retired earlier against Lendl with an injured ankle, though he was up 6-3 in a first to 8 match.

I guess this is his first MS1000 event, hopefully he can rack up some points. If he faces any of the top 8 players he will probably lose, but it seems like has a chance to take out most guys below that if he plays well.

Let's see:

Rafa, Roger, Nole, Robin, Muzza... i agree, he would lose.

but David, Thomas and A-Rod ? hmmmm... i would say 50/50 (actually, he was pretty close to beat Andy a couple weeks ago)

If Milos is lucky with the draw, he might get into the QFs :)

I'll be certainly root for him either way

How is Del Potro not mentioned in there at all?

you're right. Roger-Delpo it's been an interesting one.

and also Rafa-Delpo

Not to mention the best genuine rivalry right now (at least from one side): Raonic - Verdasco? :hammer:

:rolf:

yeah. Fer is pretty annoing with the new kid on the block (don't tell anybody, but it's because Milos can be better than him in no time)

can't wait for them to meet again... hopefully at Indian Wells next week.

At this rate, she might never return

Jesus! it's pretty scary news!

i must admit i was (am) shocked as fuck when i read this.

i mean, a wrist/knee injury is something pretty light, but AN EMBOLISM ? God! that can kill you! FOR REAL!

It's a totally bogus junk science paper which should not be taken seriously.

For example, Eddie Dibbs...
This is the guy who's highest ranking was 5, never made a major final and only two semis, won 29% of his matches against top 10 players and has 22 career titles.
Compare that to Nadal who's highest ranking was 1, has 9 major wins with a golden career slam, a 65% winning record against top 10 players and has 43 titles.

Dibbs is 18th, Nadal is 24th.
There is no good excuse for not having Laver in there too. Just a sign you did it wrong.
This algorithm is Radicchi-lous

To do well in it you have to play lots of matches (like Connors) and it hurts dominant players like Fed and Nadal since no one else is close enough to them to be considered a 'quality win'.

Who would you have play a tennis match for your life?

http://blogs.tennis.com/thewrap/2011/03/playing-for-your-life.html

Why would someone be playing a tennis match for my life? Where would I be watching from? How nervous would I be? Most important, who would my designated choice be playing? To “play for your life” you want someone tough, a gutty competitor who knows how to win; someone, above all, whom you can count on. Connors himself chose Gonzalez when asked this question, then later added John McEnroe to his list (he put a lot more trust in his old rival Johnny Mac than I thought he would). I might say Sampras, but he would have to be “at his best”; often he wasn’t. Jimbo is a solid choice, as long as he’s not playing Ivan Lendl. Or Borg. Or McEnroe. From that era, I would go with Borg over Jimmy; the Angelic Assassin was a killer in his own right. Federer? He’s the best, he's the GOAT—but for my life? When the chips were truly down? I’ll take Nadal.

awesome reading!

and yes, i fully agree: Roger is the best of them all, but for this "special" match, i also would pick Rafa and his lion-heart attitude.

Surprised to see Roddick at the Davis Cup today playing. Up 2-1 right now against former gold medal winner Massu. I look forward to a Roddick W and then following him on the clay is Isner.

Capdeville def. Isner 6-7 6-7 7-6 7-6 6-4
One break the whole match at the end, I think it took until the 61st game before it happened.
That could be a record on clay?
