Common Madia, Madia elegans. This was deep in the woods and the trail was cut out of the side of a hill. On one side of the trail was a 5ft high cliff of bare dirt and this flower growing out the side of it. The plant was maybe a foot high and the big flower about 3/4" diameter. (Jepson)
